Meeting with the representatives of Georgian Distributors Business Association

Business Ombudsman of Georgia Irakli Lekvinadze and Iva Chkonia, President of Georgian Distributors Business Association (GDBA) have met with representatives of GDBA member companies. At the meeting, the private sector representatives named the current problematic issues in the sector.

The entrepreneurs talked about the Government-planned regulations that hamper their entrepreneurial activities, including regulations on Approval Rules for Plastic and Bio Degradable Bags. Under the mentioned regulations, starting October 1, 2018, production, imports and sales of plastic bags with less that 15 micron thickness will be banned, while starting April 1, 2019 production, sales and imports of all sorts of plastic bags will be banned.

The Parties also discussed regulations for mandatory electronic marking of soft drinks, wastes management code and amendments to Georgian legislation on planned restriction on land transportation of grain and wheat.

„At the meeting the partiers discussed the regulations that may hamper implementation of business activities. The private sector expressed remarks regarding the Government-planned regulations, including timeframes for restriction and full prohibition of production, sales and imports of plastic bags. The Government passed the resolution on September 14 and the sanctions will be enforced starting October 1. We agree that two weeks do not suffice that the distribution companies finish the sales of products in the distribution network, while recalling products from network will bring essential losses to the companies. Regarding this issue the Business Ombudsman’s office will prepare recommendations and submit them to the due instances”, Georgian Business Ombudsman Irakli Lekvinadze said.
